Pilates

What’s it all about and why do it?

Pilates, in its true form, is a unique contemporary method of exercise. It includes the modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and effective methods available.

Rooted in the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) its clear and comprehensive approach has been refined over the years to accommodate clients from rehabilitation to top athletes, and everyone in between. It is a universal method which has been developed and endorsed by today’s world renowned training and certification organisations.

Pilates works ‘from the inside out’ i.e. it primarily focuses on the deeper underlying muscle groups, commonly known as ‘the core’, which is essential in the control of joint movement and sustaining joint stability. Pilates rebalances the muscles around the joints for both strength and flexibility, creating longer, leaner muscles. Its focus on flexibility contributes to one of the key components of physical fitness.

Overall, Pilates improves posture by restoring the natural curves of the spine, develops kinaesthetic awareness of the body, and enhances performance for other physical activities, functional fitness, and weight loss

Middle- and long-term effects of Pilates

Exercising consistently two to four times per week under professional guidance in a group or one-on-one situation, should start producing encouraging results within 8 to 12 weeks. The body form will have a more toned, leaner look and the person will be feeling better with enhanced body awareness. Becoming more mindful about one’s body is an encouraging and essential step towards achieving one’s health and fitness objectives.

Pilates and Weight Loss

Pilates can contribute greatly to a weight loss programme. Coupled with an aerobic component and a good eating plan, the integration of these components with Pilates becomes the most successful and healthy way to shed the excess body fat while toning and increasing muscle strength.

In view of the above, Pam Hammond Studios offers a unique, all-inclusive ‘Fat-free’ clinic ‘In the Box’ designed for both groups and individuals that makes you lose weight while you learn and experience the change from old to new habitual ways of daily living.
